Severe health hazard including 1.8 million deaths by diarrhoeal diseases is allegedly attributable to lack of safe drinking water supply and basic sanitation. To fulfil the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) drinking water and sanitation target, efficient management of existing water supply and sanitation systems is one of the essential factors.
The appropriate combination of operation, maintenance and also management is indispensable for the sustainable use of water supply and sanitation facilities as well as limited water resources, in both urbanized and rural areas.

The objective of the O&M Network is to 'develop and consolidate the networking of service providers and users in order to exchange experiences, knowledge and information through an open dialogue (both demand and supply based) on operation and maintenance of water supply and sanitation systems'.

It is not only a technical transfer but also a passion transfer as it should be. The key to success is how many and how deeply, people may understand the importance of the O&M, including local residents and policy makers.

We are going to continue our activities to promote O&M in water supply and sanitation systems, with the stronger tie with WHO, IWA and other agencies.

We provide you tools, workshops and this website to share experience from all over the world. We always need your help and attention. Please make use of our activities and please add case study examples.
