Overview of the 4th World Water Forum

The 4th World Water Forum was held in Mexico City, Mexico from Thursday,16 March to Wednesday,22 March 2006.

Participants were counted about 19000, gathered from about 140 countries. The main theme of the 4th forum was"Local actions for a global challenge". It was discussed through five frame work themes."Water for Growth and Development"."Implementing Integrated Water Resources Management"."Water Supply and Sanitation for All"."Water Management for Food and the Environment"."Risk Management".Those frame work themes was analyzed from five cross-cutting perspectives and divided into five areas of Africa,Americas,Asia-pacific,Europe,Middle East,and North Africa.More than 200 thematic sessions were held.

Water Fair,World Water Expo,Children's World Water Forum and Youth World Water Forum were held at the same time. Asia-Pacific Water Forum (APWF) was founded during the Asia-Pacific Ministerial round table. Japan released a new ODA Initiative:"Water and Sanitation Broad Partnership Initiative"(WASABI). The Ministerial Declaration was adopted which proclaimed the importance of water issues for sustainable development and this forum's contribution to further promoting international agreements and commitments.
