Tobacco Control Research (Composition analysis of tobacco products, biomarker analysis of smokers and secondhand smokers, and air analysis in passive smoking environments)

We are conducting tobacco control research based on Articles 9 and 10 of the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC). Currently, we are focusing on component analysis of “heated tobacco products,” which are used by a rapidly increasing number of smokers in Japan, and “electronic cigarettes,” which are used by many smokers overseas. In addition, we are analyzing biomarkers from biological samples of heated tobacco product smokers and secondhand smokers to investigate their health effects. In addition, the revised Health Promotion Law allows for the establishment of smoking rooms, including rooms dedicated to heated tobacco products. We are currently analyzing the indoor air in those smoking rooms.
