Research theme and outline
Research on the Chemical Analysis of Tobacco Products and the Health Effects of Smoking and Secondhand Smoke
We conduct tobacco control research based on Articles 9 and 10 of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC). Our work focuses on the chemical analysis of heated tobacco products, whose use is expanding in Japan, and of e-cigarettes, which are widely used overseas. We also measure biomarkers in biological samples from smokers and people exposed to secondhand smoke to assess the associated health effects. In addition, we are analyzing the indoor air of smoking rooms, whose installation has become permissible under the amended Health Promotion Act.
