International Cooperation

The National Institute of Public Health collaborates with domestic and international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to engage in international cooperation as a national research institute, striving to contribute to the advancement of Japan’s international cooperation in the field of public health. In order to conduct international cooperation effectively, the Institute has established the International Cooperation Research Area as a cross-cutting research domain spanning its research departments, and has appointed a Chief Researcher to oversee international cooperation research. This position is responsible for planning and coordinating international cooperation activities and for liaising with international organizations and other related bodies. Specifically, the Institute is designated as a WHO Collaborating Centre in three specialized fields, accepts trainees through JICA programs, and carries out research that supports policy-making in the area of international health.
