Research theme and outline

My research is grounded in social epidemiology and focuses on health disparities and the social determinants of health. My previous research has addressed topics including breastfeeding, HIV infection, and mental health among older adults.
Currently, I conduct international comparative research aimed at promoting Healthy Ageing and Universal Health Coverage (UHC), primarily in Asian countries experiencing rapid population ageing. In particular, I am involved in developing the Revised Healthy Active Ageing Index (Revised HAAI), which comprehensively assesses older people’s health and social participation, as well as the policies, systems, long-term care arrangements, statistical infrastructure, and social environments that support them. I am also developing a standardized survey instrument for the comparative assessment of policies and systems for older people across Asian countries. Drawing on Japan’s experience and expertise in ageing policies and health systems, my research aims to comprehensively assess older people’s health, welfare, long-term care, and social participation and to contribute to evidence-informed policymaking and international cooperation.
